Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Today you will meet your Travac Tours Director at the Ottawa VIA Rail Station on Tremblay Rd. You will board train #53 departing Ottawa at 1145 and arriving in Toronto at 1633. It is a 3-minute walk from Union Station to the Fairmont Royal York which is your accommodation for the night. Located in the core of downtown Toronto your restaurant and shopping possibilities are extensive. The remainder of your afternoon is free time. Reminder that check-in is 4:00pm.
As per Canada Transport the entire group must travel from Ottawa to Toronto. No alternate pick-up station is permitted.
Day 2-3
This morning you will depart the hotel and walk over to Union Station to board the Canadian. NOTE: You are only permitted to have a carry-on size bag to take to your cabin. Your larger checked bag must be checked in with VIA and it will be stored away. YOU CANNOT ACCESS YOUR CHECK BAG WHILE ON THE TRAIN.
Today your wonderful train adventure begins aboard VIA’s The Canadian. You will be completely immersed in the single most contributing factor to what connected Canada from east to west.
Get comfortable in your “Manor Sleeping Car”. The cabins for one (with a concealed toilet) or two (with an ensuite toilet) both have vanities, and the chairs configure to make up your beds for the next four nights. The beds are made up while at dinner and put back away while at breakfast. The cabins for 2 have one upper and one lower bunk. The single cabin has one lower bed. A public shower, and 2 washrooms per car, are at your disposal. Your meals and access to the Dome Observation Car are included. Breakfast is first come, first served while lunch and dinner are set times. Times can only be reserved on the train the day before for the following day.
All 3 meals have 4 choices (one of which is vegan).
It is important to note that the train stops about every seven hours for operational reasons. The length of the stop can vary from ten minutes to two hours.
We will depart Toronto at 0945 and you will travel to Winnipeg. Depending on our fall weather we should enjoy all the autumn colours along with the spectacular scenery of the Canadian Shield of Northern Ontario. Expect to arrive October 16 at 1930. You can put your watch back 1 hour to CST in Allanwater Bridge, ON.
There is a complete staff change in Winnipeg which can affect your mealtimes.

Day 4
You will travel from Winnipeg to Saskatoon during the night. Expect to arrive in Saskatoon at 1050. There will be a 1 hour stop in Saskatoon where you can set your watch back 1 hour to MST then onward to Edmonton. Sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery and perhaps enjoy time with new friends. The train will follow a beautiful stretch on the Manitoba and Saskatchewan border of the Assiniboine River. Expect to arrive in Edmonton at 2050.
Day 5
Wake up and enjoy your wonderful breakfast in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Expect to arrive in Jasper at 0630 and then depart at 0930. You will enjoy full daylight for this breathtaking segment from Jasper to Kamloops. Jasper to Kamloops is likely the most stunning scenery. Enjoy the Dome Car, the Dining Car, and the Park Car to take in all the scenery. You can set your watch back 1 hour MST in Jasper.
Expect to arrive in Kamloops at 1830 and depart at 1903.
Day 6
We will travel from Kamloops through the night onto our destination of The Canadian to Vancouver. You can set your watch back 1 hour PST in Vancouver. Expect to arrive at 0800. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your Vancouver hotel The Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront. Within walking distance to Vancouver Harbour and Canada Place with wonderful views of Stanley Park you are very well situated. After arriving at your hotel, the rest of the day is free to enjoy the surrounding area. Your Travac Tours Director will have ideas of things to do. Reminder that check-in time is 3:00pm.
Day 7
This morning at 9:00am you will depart the hotel on a private coach for a 4-hour guided city tour. Your afternoon is at your leisure. You may wish to visit Gastown, a lovely walk in Stanley Park or make your way to Granville Island. This beautiful city has so much to offer.
Day 8
Today you will meet your Travac Tours Director in the lobby of the hotel to get your transfer to the Vancouver International Airport and board your flight to Ottawa. Your tour guide will update you on the time.

Memphis is so much more than a city on the banks of the Mississippi River. It is in many ways the home of the blues, soul and Rock and Roll music. The blues continue to resonate through the streets and clubs surrounding Beale Street.
Nashville on the other hand is famous for its honky tonks with live music from a variety of talented acts. It is also home to some of the best country music museums in the United States.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Today you meet your Travac Tour Director at the Ottawa International Airport for your flights to Memphis. Upon your arrival in Memphis you will be transferred to your hotel. The balance of your day will be free.
Day 2
Your tour of Memphis will focus on Beale Street and the historic district of this town. You will learn about many of the personalities that left their imprint on Memphis from Danny Thomas to Elvis Presley and B.B. King. We will end the tour with a visit to Sun Studio before returning to our hotel.
Day 3
Today we will visit Graceland to explore the Elvis connection to Memphis. Learn how his revolutionary style and unique sound changed the face of popular music and culture forever. The balance of your day will be free.
Day 4
We will be heading to Nashville later this morning.
After arriving in Nashville, the balance of your day will be free. If you wish to go to a performance of the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman during your stay, your Tour Director will be happy to arrange tickets.
Day 5
This morning we’ll be touring Nashville. Besides its musical heritage, Nashville is the state capital and home to Vanderbilt University. It truly is one of the most vibrant cities in the US. Our tour will follow the music scene and will show you some of the famous and not so famous honky-tonks and saloons. The tour will culminate with a visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame and RCA Studio B.
Day 6
Today is at your leisure. There are plenty of museums in Nashville that you might consider visiting including the Johnny Cash Museum.
Day 7
Today you will be transferred to the airport for your return flights back to Ottawa.

Come and enjoy America’s capital at arguably the best time of year to visit the city. There are no school groups visiting, and the normal bustle of the city slows down during the Labour Day weekend. This simply means that you will see a considerable number of sights and attractions in less time and appreciate your experience all the more.
While in Washington, you’ll enjoy a four hour city tour with a local guide with stops at many of the Memorials that Washington is known for and, of course, Capitol Hill. We will drive through neighbourhoods, past Embassy Row, the Washington National Cathedral, as well as the famous National Mall (encompasses 11 of the Smithsonian Museums and Galleries). This tour will give you great ideas of what you can explore in your free time.
In your spare time visit any of the 17 FREE Smithsonian Institutes like the National Air and Space Museum, the American Art Museum, and the National Museum of Natural History, just to name a few. Day 1
This morning you will depart Westgate Shopping Centre for Washington. Two washroom stops and one lunch stop will be made en route. At approximately 6:00pm you will arrive at your hotel in downtown Washington. You will have the evening free to enjoy dinner and relax.
Day 2
This morning we will meet our local guide and motorcoach for a half-day tour of the city. You will have a chance to see all the capital’s famous attractions, including Capitol Hill, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, FDR Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Embassy Row and Canadian Embassy. This tour will also familiarize you with the city and its neighbourhoods to make your stay more enjoyable. After the city tour, you will have time to explore and enjoy Washington on your own. Optional tours will be offered ($).

Today is a free day. You will have the opportunity to visit the prestigious Smithsonian Institution. This collection of museums and galleries, scattered along the beautiful National Mall, is home to some of the world’s most intriguing exhibits and impressive collections. You can explore the American History Museum, the National Air and Space Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, and many more institutions along the one mile stretch of the Mall. Best of all, admission to the Smithsonian’s museums is free! (B)
At 9:30am we offer a free shuttle service to the Smithsonian-drop off at Smithsonian Castle. Please note that most museums open at 10:00am. We will offer a drop off and pick up to the Smithsonian Museums.

Day 4
Today you will have a free day to explore Washington on your own. You may wish to return to the Smithsonian, visit some of the various monuments or explore some of Washington’s neighborhoods. (B)

Quebec- Gaspé Peninsula

The fabled Gaspé region of Quebec is a portrait of rugged coastlines, peaceful fishing havens and pleasant valleys. Much of the region hasn’t changed a great deal since it was visited by Jacques Cartier in 1534.
Its appeal today is driven by tourists who come for its untouched natural beauty and the romantic charm of its villages and their residents.

Day 1
This morning you will depart Westgate Shopping Centre and make our way through Montreal and follow the south shore of the St. Lawrence River to Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec. A lunch stop will be made enroute. Rivière-du-Loup has a proud history that dates back to 1673. Today it is a great stopping point for our visit to Gaspé. Expect to arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 2
This morning we will begin our journey into the heart of the Gaspé Peninsula. Our travels will take us through picturesque villages and pleasant maritime scenery. Gaspé itself is a peninsula along the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River. Its name comes from a Mi’kmaq word meaning Land’s End. The actual size of the Gaspé Peninsula is close to that of Belgium, but its population is less than 100,000. Expect to arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon. After you check in to your hotel you will be free to enjoy the surrounds of the charming seaside village of Percé. (B)
Day 3
Your day will begin with a visit to Bonaventure Island by boat (weather permitting). The island is one of the largest and most accessible bird sanctuaries in the world. It was also one of the most important fishing ports of New France in the 17th century. Your day will also include a tour of this part of the Gaspé region. You will have the opportunity to see Percé Rock up close. This rock formation was first named by Samuel de Champlain in 1607. From a distance the rock looks like a ship under sail. It is also one of the world’s largest natural arches and attracts tourists from around the world. After your tour, the balance of your day will be free. (B)
Day 4
Leaving Percé, we will travel through the Gaspé Peninsula following the north shore of the peninsula as we travel to Rimouski. Along the way, we will make a stop at Reford Gardens. Originally a fishing camp, Reford gardens has been transformed into one of the most beautiful gardens in Canada by the several generations of the Reford family. Today the gardens feature over 3,000 species and varieties of plants, all living in a picturesque setting that is assisted by an unusual area microclimate. The magic of these gardens will certainly be a highlight of our holiday. In the late afternoon, we arrive to our hotel for the evening. (B)

Edmundston to Summerside
Leaving Edmundston we will continue our journey along the Trans-Canada highway making your way east through New Brunswick to the sea, where you will cross Confederation Bridge. Confederation Bridge spans the Abegweit Passage of Northumberland Strait, linking Prince Edward Island with mainland New Brunswick. It won’t take long once you have crossed this engineering marvel to reach Summerside, your home for the evening.

Summerside to Iles De La Madeleine
After a leisurely breakfast and a bit more time in Summerside, you’re off to Souris for the ferry crossing to Iles de la Madeleine. Our route to the ferry will take us along the north coast of PEI. Dinner will be available to be purchased onboard the ferry during your 5-hour crossing.

Iles De La Madeleine
The Îles de la Madeleine is an isolated archipelago made up of seven inhabited islands in the middle of the Gulf of St.Lawrence. Six of these islands are linked by the main road, Route 199, while the seventh, Entry Island, is only accessible by boat. The total population of the islands is under 15,000. While on the islands you enjoy a complete change of pace. Today we tour the western part of the archipelago. In the morning we will visit the villages of Cap-aux-Meules, L’Etang-du-Nord and La Cote. In the afternoon we have the opportunity to explore the island of Havre-Aubert. Dinner is included tonight.

Iles De La Madeleine
Today we visit the eastern part of the islands. In the morning, we explore the village of Havre-aux Maisons and make a stop at the Pointe-Basse Harbour to visit the herring smokehouse economuseum. We will then make our way to the Echourie lighthouse before stopping at Dune-du-Sud for a walk on the beach and a look at the brilliant cliffs carved by the sea. In the afternoon we will visit the villages of Grosse-Isle and Grand-Entrée. Dinner is included tonight.

This morning, we will be met by our local guide for a tour of this appealing island. We will start off with a tour of Historic Charlottetown. Next, we will be off to Anne’s Land. Your journey will take you to Cavendish, one of the prettiest towns on the island. The fictional redheaded Anne of Green Gables is everywhere in this area. When the novel Anne of Green Gables was first published in 1908, most people could only dream of visiting its magical setting. Your visit will take you to Green Gables heritage place. Green Gables, part of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Cavendish National Historic Site, is famous around the world as the inspiration for the setting in Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic tale of fiction. We will also visit PEI Preserve Company, North Rustico, and PEI National Park.

Upon your arrival in Dublin you will be met by your local driver/guide and begin your journey to Belfast, Northern Ireland’s capital. Your first stop will be Titanic Belfast. This museum is the world’s largest RMS Titanic visitor attraction, comprising nine interpretive and interactive galleries focused on the short history of the famous ship. Its exhibits fill six floors and includes interactive discovery zones, full-scale reconstructions with special effects and real-life accounts from survivors of the tragic wreck. Highlights include the Ocean Exploration Centre with live links to modern underwater explorations and the luxurious Titanic Banqueting Hall. (D)

Costal Route & Giant’s Causeway
This morning we will follow Northern Ireland’s famous coastal route and Giant’s Causeway. Considered to be one of the top scenic drives in Great Britain, this 212-kilometer route winds along the craggy coast of Northern Ireland. Stretching from Belfast all the way to Derry, the Causeway Coastal Route leads to castles, cliff walks, beaches, waterfalls, Game of Thrones filming locations and other scenic locales. (B)

Londonderry & Donegal
After breakfast we will begin our journey to Sligo. Our first stop en route will be in Londonderry. This town is the only completely walled city left in Ireland. It has also played a big role in Northern Ireland’s troubled past.
Our next stop will be in Donegal. Donegal was voted the coolest place on the planet by National Geographic Traveler in 2017. This is because of its rugged interior, remote mountain passes and shimmering lakes. (B)

Sligo to Galway
Today we will make our way to Galway. While steeped in history, Galway has a unique energy that makes it one of Ireland’s most visited cities. Galway has a thriving and cosmopolitan city centre. It is always a joy to explore with its wonderful cobbled streets, colourful shop facades and its unusual array of coffee shops. Your tour of Galway will encompass all of its major historical sites. Connemara Tour
Today you can explore some of the beautiful countryside of Connemara, with its rolling hills, flowing rivers and coastal landscapes. Connemara is a wild and beautiful region of mountains, lakes, tumbling streams, undulating bog, unspoiled beaches and panoramic views. It is a Gaelic- speaking region and has attracted many artisans, who can be visited at work in their studios. The centre of Connemara is composed of mountain peaks, the Twelve Bens or Pins, which culminate in Benbaun. The sharp grey peaks of quartzite rock which is resistant to weathering are too steep and hard to be clothed in blanket bog. The region is now largely uninhabited, although in the past the more fertile lowlands were cultivated and the uplands were used as pasture for cattle and sheep.
Stop and visit Kylemore Abbey & Gardens. Kylemore Abbey is the only home of the Benedictine nuns in Ireland. The Abbey was acquired by the nuns in 1920. Set in the heart of Connemara, this unique Abbey offers the warmth and hospitality of its peaceful environs. Its enchanting history is interpreted in detail in rooms at the Abbey. It was originally built by Mitchell Henry, M.P. for County Galway (a native of Manchester city) as a gift for his wife. The Gothic Church, set in the grounds of the Abbey, is the jewel in the crown of Kylemore. It has been lovingly restored and any visit would not be complete without seeing it. Explore the magical 6 acre Victorian walled garden, where Victorian varieties of flowers and vegetables are grown. Vegetables and herbs from the garden are used in the café where they offer traditional home cooked food made to the recipes of the Benedictine nuns. (B)

The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty
Travel through the Burren – The Burren takes its name from the Irish word ‘bhoireann’ meaning, ‘a stony place’ or ‘a rocky place’, which is a good description for this 350 sq. kilometres limestone plateau in North Clare. The rough, intriguing and attractive landscape was formed 320 million years ago under a tropical sea. Later it was shaped by ice, hard weather and, of course, man and his beasts. The many wedge tombs and megalithic tombs prove that people have been living in the Burren for more than 5000 years.
Then travel to the Cliffs of Moher, one of Ireland’s most spectacular sights. Standing 600ft above the ground at their highest point and 5 miles long, the Cliffs boast one of the most amazing views in Ireland. On a clear day, the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay as well as the valleys and hills of Connemara.
In the afternoon, visit Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Bunratty Castle is one of Europe’s finest. Pride of more than 100 castles built by the McNamara chieftains in 15th century Clare, it is faithfully restored and refurnished. Built in 1425, it is the most complete and authentic medieval fortress in Ireland and contains furnishings, tapestries and works of art from the period. In the shadow of the castle is Bunratty Folk Park set on 26 acres, illustrating 19th century Irish life from grand manor houses to peasant dwelling and from farm activities to cobble-stone village streets. Our first stop will be in Dingle. Dingle is a small port town on southwest Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula, known for its rugged scenery, trails and sandy beaches. It is considered to be one of the most picturesque parts of Ireland.

Blarney & Cork City
This morning we depart for Blarney and the Blarney Stone, which has the traditional power on conferring eloquence on all who kiss it! The word ‘Blarney’ means pleasant talk, intended to deceive without offending. The battlements crowning the castle keep are typically Irish in form. Having climbed more than 100 steps, the famous Stone is set in the wall below the parapet, and to kiss it, one has to lean backwards from the parapet walk of the battlements. You can also visit the Blarney Woolen mills for some fine quality Irish produce.
After lunch, you will enjoy a panoramic tour of Cork and learn the history of Ireland’s third city known as the Rebel City. The city’s origins lie early in the seventh century when St. Finbarr, founder and patron saint, founded a small monastic community close to where Gilabbey Street now stands, and it grew into an extensive and wealthy establishment. It attracted the attention of the Viking sea-pirates who raided and burned the infant city, but returned in later years to settle and trade. The Anglo-Norman invasion in 1172 resulted in both the Danish lords and local MacCarthy chiefs having to submit to Henry II, but Cork has always had a reputation for independence and stubborn resistance – it came to be known as “Rebel Cork”.
The group’s final destination today is Kinsale. The town is renowned for its fresh seafood and gourmet cooking, as well as its numerous ‘cozy’ pubs!!! (B)

Midleton & Waterford
This morning, visit the Jameson Experience at the Old Midleton Distillery, Co Cork. The original buildings at the Middleton Distillery date back as far as the 1800s, and were used to mature Cork Distillery Whiskey (now known as Paddy Whiskey). Visitors come face to face with original kilns and pot stills from that time and explore warehouses that have matured whiskey for more than 2 centuries. Enjoy a signature drink of Jameson at the end of the tour.
Afterwards, you will travel to Waterford with an included city tour. Waterford is one of Ireland’s oldest and most historic cities. The walled city withstood siege on several occasions in the past but fell to the Normans in 1170 AD. It prospered under the Normans and emerged as the second city of Ireland after Dublin. The city was the chief port of Ireland throughout the middle ages.
Your final destination today is Kilkenny City. Located in the heart if Ireland’s Ancient East, the medieval city of Kilkenny is named after a 6th century monk called Saint Canice. His memory lives on in the beautifully preserved St. Canice’s Cathedral built overlooking the city in the 13th century. (B)

Dublin
Visit Kilkenny Castle – The Normans arrived in the 12th century and their legacy remains in the superb and fully restored Kilkenny Castle and in the thriving and cosmopolitan merchant city. The 17th century was a time of great social and political turmoil for Kilkenny. It was the seat of national parliament for a six year period. The famous Oliver Cromwell invaded the city in 1650 and Kilkenny College was attended by such luminaries as Jonathan Swift and Bishop Berkeley.

Today is our day to explore Gros Morne National Park, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 for its impressive geological features. This afternoon we venture off on a 45minute walk to one of the most beautiful boat tours in all of Newfoundland – “Western Brook Pond”. You will marvel at the size of the landlocked Fjord while enjoying this narrated two-hour cruise.

This morning we head further up the northern peninsula, we will cross the Strait of Belle Isle by ferry to Labrador.

Our two visits today will be to Red Bay National Historic Site to see where the whalers from the Basques regions of Spain and France established a major whale port. We will also visit Point Amour Lighthouse – the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada!

Today we will head back onto the ferry after breakfast – heading to the tip of the peninsula – St Anthony. Our first stop will be at Sir Wilfred Grenfell Mission. We will have a guide meet us to take us on a tour of the site. The Grenfell Mission provided some of the earliest permanent medical services in Labrador and northern Newfoundland. Before the mission opened its first hospital at Battle Harbour in 1893, almost no health-care resources existed in the area – hospitals were nonexistent. After lunch we will embark on a 2.5-hour boat cruise of the scenic coastal waters off St. Anthony, an area famous for its bounty of icebergs, whales and seabirds.

This morning you will make your way to another UNESCO National Historic Site, L’Anse aux Meadows. It was here in 1960 that a group of Archeologists discovered the remains of what was an ancient Norse encampment that would have housed as many as 100 Vikings. While here, you will have a chance to view some of the recovered artifacts. Your Parks Canada guide will also go over how the encampment was discovered. Near the original encampment are several re-created sod and timber buildings, depicting how life was lived 1,000 years ago. These buildings are tended by costumed interpreters.

This morning we will retrace our drive – now heading south on the Northern Peninsula. There will still be many opportunities to enjoy its natural beauty – our driver will make a few “Hidden Gem Stops” enroute for picture taking.

After breakfast, we will make our way to Gander. Gander is most famous for the role that it has played in Canadian aviation history. This role extends back the 1930’s and was most prominent in World War II when over 10,000 airmen were stationed in Gander. Most of the streets in Gander are named after famous aviators, including Amelia Earhart, Alcock and Brown, Charles Lindbergh, Eddie Rickenbacker and Marc Garneau. This is one of our longer driving days so we will have a few hidden gem stops.

Today, visit some of the sites delving into Gander’s history. You’ll visit the International Lounge at the Gander airport and the Silent Witness Memorial.

This morning we will drive from Gander to Farewell – take the ferry via Change Island to Fogo Island – at Fogo we will be joined by a local guide for a tour. After our tour we will head back on the ferry and get off at the stop for Change Islands. Change Islands is the only place where they breed the Newfoundland Pony. We will stop and visit the amazing people that run the sanctuary. After our visit and lunch, we will head back on the ferry to Farewell and then our drive back to Twillingate for the night.
Located on the northeastern shore of Newfoundland, Twillingate is affectionately known as the ‘Iceberg Capital of the World’. Twillingate was once an active fishing community and is one of the oldest ports on the island.

This afternoon, you have time to explore Trinity –enjoy a self-walking tour of the historic houses and churches of this beautiful town all by foot. Maps for this self-walking tour are provided locally.

Your journey today will take you to Bonavista. Here you will have the chance to view the cliffs and enjoy the wonderful coastal scenery. It was here that John Cabot made landfall in 1497. While in Bonavista we will visit The Ryan Premises National Historic Site of Canada to explore the internationally recognized “Cod, Seals and Survivors” exhibition that tells the 500-year story of Canada’s east coast fishery.
TONIGHT – Pack your overnight bag for St. Pierre. Since vehicles are not permitted on the ferry we must walk on and walk off the ferry with our bags, we also have to walk over to our hotel (about 2 blocks). Please ensure you have all your medications and a change of clothes for the two nights. Make sure you have your passports for tomorrow as well.

Early this morning, we will leave the quaint village of Trinity for our drive to the ferry in Fortune. This afternoon we will take the ferry from Fortune to St Pierre, France. Our coach will drop us off at the terminal and we will walk onboard the ferry. Your checked luggage will stay in Newfoundland on the coach. These French Islands are Frances oldest overseas territory. On arrival (approximately 5:00pm) we walk across the street to our hotel for the next two nights.

This morning we will visit Cape St Mary’s Ecological Reserve – you will see thousands of seabirds – gammets, razorbills, common murres, black-legged kittiwakes, northern gannets, and double-crested and great cormorants (as long as the fog does not roll in!). We will then head into St. John’s, the capital of Newfoundland. After lunch we will embark on a 2-hour city tour of St John’s. The city enjoys a long and vibrant history as the oldest English-founded city in North America. While the city owes a great deal to the fishing industry, it has been transformed into a modern city famed for its nightlife and its rich musical culture. Evening is free.

Heading south from St. John’s our first stop today is Witless Bay where you will embark on a boat tour (weather permitting) and have a chance to view thousands of Atlantic Puffins, Murres and other seabirds that make their home here in the summer. After lunch we will visit Cape Spear National Historic Park, the most easterly point of land in North America before returning to the hotel.

Day 1
Coach departs Westgate Shopping Centre for Quebec City. Our accommodation for the next three nights is the Clarendon Hotel. A fabulous location to see the sights and sounds of Old Quebec. You will easily enjoy the cobblestone streets and their seventeenth- and eighteenth-century stone houses and churches. You will also be free to come and go at your leisure, perhaps stopping for a croissant and steaming bowl of coffee in a Parisian-style café.
Day 2
This morning, we will depart for a guided tour of Québec City. Our tour includes visits to the Plains of Abraham, the Parliament Buildings, Artists’ Alley and much of the old city. We will then head along the Beaupré coast to visit Montmorency Falls and Sainte Anne de Beaupre Basilica. Late in the afternoon you will again be free to stroll through the streets of old Quebec. You may also wish to visit the Musée de la Civilisation, which skillfully presents tourists with a display of French-Canadian culture.
Day 3
Later this morning we will depart for the culinary island of Ile d’Orléans. Savour the favours of the region by having the opportunity to make several stops, including a vineyard. The island measures 34km long and 8km wide. A great place to stop and taste local produce and learn from your local guide, the history dating back to 1535 when the first European explorers set foot on this island.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1
This morning we will leave Ottawa and make our way towards the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Our first stop will be Vitality Elderberry Farm in Lac-Brome for a tasting of their delicious berries that are known for their health benefits. We will then make our way to Knowlton, a town known to Penny for its pastoral beauty and the inspiration for Three Pines in her books. While in Knowlton we will visit Brome Lake Books. This small village bookstore has all the trappings of an early 20th century building with bookcases filled with both hardcovers and paperbacks. You can even leave a message for Louise Penny in a book dedicated to this purpose. After your visit to the bookstore, you will take a short walk to the Brome County Historical Society Museum where you will find Jane’s painting from Still Life. After our visit to Knowlton, we will visit an award-winning winery, just outside of Magog, known particularly for its sparkling wines.
Day 2
We will begin our day in Sherbrooke with a guided tour of the town and its famous murals. We will then make our way to the Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre for high tea, a tradition Louise and Armand would appreciate. Housed in a Neo-Georgian residence built in 1862, Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre is a non-profit organization devoted to the preservation, the support, and diffusion of the cultural and heritage traditions of the Eastern Townships. This Centre is a favorite haunt for many in the region. After tea, we will visit La Station Fromagerie, winner of several regional, provincial, and national awards for their cheese made from organic raw cow’s milk. The cows feed on organic pastures that give their cheeses a very local flavour. Our last stop is Georgeville, where you can visit the General Store, the inspiration for Mr. Belliveau’s General Store, and St George’s Church, inspiration for St Thomas Church. You will also see the old Mansion House, the basis of “Hadley House” which figures prominently in Penny’s novel A Fatal Grace. The Old Mansion House was built in 1889 and once had the distinction of being Quebec’s oldest hotel in continuous operation. The house began its life as a coaching inn, serving travelers making their way from Montreal to Boston. Over the years, folklore has surrounded the house which Penny picks up in her novel.
Day 3
Our final day begins with a journey to Sutton. On our way, we will stop at Abbaye de Saint-Benoît-du-Lac. This abbey was the inspiration for Saint-Gilbert-Entre-les-Loups Abbey in A Beautiful Mystery. The abbey itself has a history that dates back to 1912. At the time of its construction, it was rather isolated, but in an incredibly beautiful locale. The Benedictine monks of the Saint-Benoit-du-Lac abbey are famous for and have been making cheeses since 1943. You will have the chance to tour the abbey and to purchase some of this incredible cheese. Leaving the abbey, we will continue on to Sutton where lunch will be included. Before we bid farewell to the world of Three Pines, you will also have a chance to visit the delicatessen (La Rumeur Affamée) on which Sarah’s Boulangerie was based.
