Our adventure begins in Hamburg, a city known for its maritime history, artistic vibrancy, and beautiful architecture. For centuries, Hamburg has played a vital role in Europe’s musical history, hosting some of the greatest composers. You’ll experience this legacy through its well-preserved landmarks and cultural sites.

From Hamburg, we head to the Saxon city of Leipzig, a city renowned for its musical heritage. Home to the legendary Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, established in 1743, Leipzig has been a center for both classical and contemporary music. Here, we will visit places linked to Johann Sebastian Bach, and Felix Mendelssohn, bringing their stories and musical achievements to life. You will also be in Leipzig during the world-renowned “Bachfest” which is a not-to-miss event.

Next, we journey to Prague, a city that pulses with cultural history. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had a deep connection to Prague, where his “Prague Symphony” and Don Giovanni premiered. You’ll explore the city’s breathtaking architecture and its vibrant musical scene, feeling the presence of its storied past.

We then travel to Vienna, often called the “City of Music”, and for good reason. Vienna has been home to many great composers, including Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms. Our visit will take you to iconic venues like the Vienna State Opera and Musikverein, offering an immersive experience into the city’s unparalleled musical legacy.

Our final stop is Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and a city deeply rooted in culture and music. You’ll attend concerts and explore sites that celebrate its rich history. Known for its baroque architecture and lively festivals, Salzburg provides the perfect conclusion to our musical journey.

Tour Itinerary


Day 1

Today you will depart Ottawa on your overnight flight to Hamburg via Paris.

Day 2

Hamburg, Germany (3 nights)

Upon your arrival in Hamburg, you will be transferred to the hotel. You will have the afternoon free to explore the surrounding area. This evening, you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow travellers at the included welcome dinner.

Day 3

This morning, you will be met by our local guide and taken on a city tour. This tour will provide an overview of the city’s main attractions, culture, and historical significance. Known for its maritime heritage, Hamburg boasts a mix of historic and modern architecture, vibrant neighborhoods, and scenic waterfronts. Composers such as Telemann, Emanuel Bach, Hasse, Mendelssohn, Mahler, and Brahms have all influenced and been influenced by this historical city. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, the arts, or just soaking up the local atmosphere, you are sure to enjoy this well-rounded glimpse into this fascinating city.

Your afternoon will be free to explore some of the great sights that the city has to offer.

Day 4

Today you will have another chance to explore and discover the spirit of Hamburg. You may wish to explore one of the many museums that are dedicated to some of the famous composers who spent time in Hamburg or see a show at the stunning Elbphilharmonie concert hall. Your Travac Tours Director will have other suggestions of activities to fill your free day.

Day 5

Leipzig, Germany (2 nights)

From Hamburg we will travel through Germany and make our way to Leipzig. We will make a stop enroute in Hanover where you will enjoy some free time to explore. After checking into our hotel in Leipzig, the remainder of your day will be free. World renowned music festival “Bachfest” is taking place throughout our stay in Leipzig. Some may wish to take in one of the incredible performances being put on throughout the city.

Day 6

This morning you will join a local guide for a city tour. This 2-hour walking tour of Leipzig is a great way to explore the city’s rich history, vibrant arts scene, and architectural beauty. Known for its role in the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, Leipzig also has a strong musical heritage, associated with famous composers like Bach, Wagner, and Mendelssohn. This inspired city was home to Richard Wagner, Albert Lortzing, Gustav Mahler and others – the musical tour of Leipzig offers an eclectic score of musicians and the city’s wonderful sights on this captivating tour.

Your afternoon is at leisure for you to explore. Your Travac Tours Director will have some suggestions on how to spend your afternoon.

In the evening, you will join your Travac Tours Director for an included musical performance put on as part of Bachfest. The theme of this year’s festival is “Transformation” and this concert is sure to be a highlight. (Concert subject to change)

Day 7

Prague, Czech Republic (3 nights)

Upon leaving Leipzig, we will begin our journey towards Prague stopping in Dresden along the way. After checking into the hotel in Prague, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure.

Day 8

This morning you will enjoy a guided city tour of Prague. This city tour of Prague is a fantastic way to explore the “City of a Hundred Spires,” known for its stunning architecture, historic sites, and charming old town. Prague has a rich cultural heritage and features a unique blend of Gothic, Baroque, and Romanesque styles, along with vibrant neighborhoods and picturesque streets. Prague has a rich musical heritage and was beloved by composers like Mozart, Dvořák, and Smetana. With an enriching blend of history, culture, and scenic beauty and something to captivate every type of traveler, you are sure to enjoy learning about the city and it’s musical influences.

Your afternoon is at leisure and your Travac Tours Director can assist with ideas of how to spend your day.

Day 9

Today is a free day. Spend your day in Prague soaking up the city’s historic charm and stunning views. Wander through its iconic squares and across picturesque bridges, explore its impressive architecture, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. Be sure to take in the sights from a hilltop for a memorable end to your day. No matter what you choose to do with your free time the majesty of the city is always there. Your tour director will be happy to help you with suggestions to make the most of your day.

This evening you will enjoy an included performance but on by the Czech Collegium Ensemble at the magnificent Spanish Synagogue. The performance will feature not only the ensemble, but also a leading soprano soloist performing famous melodies from W. A. Mozart to Leonard Cohen. (Concert subject to change)

Day 10

Vienna, Austria (3 nights)

Leaving Prague, we will make a stop in the charming town of Český Krumlov, a UNESCO world heritage site, before we reach Vienna. This medieval town is nestled on the Vltava River. While in Český Krumlov you will have a chance to wander through its traffic-free cobblestone streets, shop and explore before heading on to Vienna. Your afternoon and evening will be at your leisure in the beautiful city of Vienna.

Day 11

This morning, you will have a guided sightseeing tour of Vienna. Discover Vienna’s timeless charm on a city tour that blends grand architecture, historic sites, and lively local culture. Meander through elegant streets, explore impressive palaces, and enjoy the beauty of well-known landmarks. Take in the city’s vibrant atmosphere, immerse yourself in its rich history, and savor its unique blend of tradition and sophistication. Vienna’s rich musical heritage of Mozart, Beethoven, and Strauss are truly on display throughout this awe-inspiring tour.

Your afternoon will again be at your leisure. Your Travac Tours Director will have suggestions on how to spend the remainder of your day.

Day 12

Your last day in Vienna will be on your own. Your Travac Tours Director will be happy to offer some suggestions for sightseeing, dining or shopping.

Day 13

Salzburg, Austria (3 nights)

Today, we depart Vienna for Salzburg. Your afternoon and evening will be for you to enjoy wandering around beautiful Salzburg.

Day 14

This morning you will have a city tour of Salzburg where you are sure to see just what makes this city so renowned. A city tour of Salzburg offers a captivating journey through the birthplace of Mozart, renowned for its baroque architecture, charming old town, and stunning alpine views. Experience a unique blend of history, music, and stunning scenery, while immersing yourself in the musical essence of Salzburg on a city tour that celebrates its rich heritage. Stroll through charming streets filled with history and vibrant culture, where the spirit of Mozart and other great composers comes alive. Enjoy the stunning scenery that inspired timeless melodies, and soak in the city’s enchanting atmosphere, perfect for music lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

This evening, you will round out your wonderful central European journey with tonight’s included farewell dinner and concert. The wonderful performance and delicious meal takes places at the beautiful Baroque Hall in the oldest restaurant in the world, St. Peter Stiftskulinarium which opened in the year 803. Tonight, you will be serenated with a variety of Mozart’s works while you enjoy a tasty 3 course meal. (Concert subject to change)

Day 15

A free day in Salzburg is sure to be nothing short of amazing. You will have time to shop, explore, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings that make this city so magical.

Day 16

This morning, you have an early departure by bus from Salzburg to Munich. You will fly from Munich to Montreal via Paris, then travel by bus back to Ottawa.
