Rome & the Amalfi Coast
Rome was the centre of what was one of the world’s most powerful empires. The ancient city was a showcase for the most remarkable cultural and structural innovations of the time. During the Renaissance era, Rome underwent massive reconstruction, bestowing it with broad plazas, lavish palaces, and stunning neo-Classical architecture. Today’s Rome embraces the spirit of its history in fascinating monuments, but also greets millions of visitors with a modern, cosmopolitan aura and unparalleled street life.
This year, travel to Italy for a sensational getaway that combines time in Rome with a stay in the spectacular Amalfi Coast. Travac Tours’ one-of-a-kind nine-day excursion will show you the true beauty of the fall season in central Italy. You’ll spend five days exploring the famous sites of Rome, with the use of a two day hop on hop off tour service. You’ll also spend four days in the rugged Amalfi Coast, home to some of the most breathtaking vistas in the Mediterranean. From your hotel on the Sorrentine peninsula you will also depart to Pompeii, as well as an optional ($) visit to the isle of Capri and the famous Blue Grotto.
Travac’s Rome and Amalfi getaway is fully-escorted from Ottawa by a Travac Tours host and includes round-trip airfare, transportation in Italy, eight nights’ accommodation at premier hotels, nine meals, and the aforementioned day tours.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1
This afternoon you will fly on your overnight flight from Canada to Rome.
Day 2
Upon arrival in Rome we will be met and taken southeastward to the village of Amalfi. The Amalfi coast is a stretch of coastline on the southern Sorrentine Peninsula renowned for its charming towns and breathtaking rugged scenery. The town of Amalfi still maintains many of the cultural and physical traits that have characterized the region for centuries. We will have a chance to get to know each other this evening during our included welcome dinner together. (D)
Day 3
After breakfast, you will have a chance to explore your surrounding on a 3 hour guided walking hour of Amalfi. After the tour the balance of your day will be free. (B)
Day 4
Today is a free day.
Your tour guide will be offering an optional ($) excursion to Capri today. Capri is a small island off the Sorrentine Peninsula. It has been a resort town since Roman times. It is most famous for the “Blue Grotto” a sea cave that is naturally lit by a unique limestone formation that allows daylight to enter the cave. (B)
Day 5
We will make our way to Rome after breakfast. On our way we will stop at Pompeii. Pompeii was destroyed in 79AD when Mount Vesuvius erupted, burying the town in 20 feet of ash. They city was petrified in time until it was unearthed in 1748. Today you will have a chance to visit its ruins and discover the life of a town as it existed 2000 years ago. From Pompeii we will head to Rome. After checking into your hotel, the balance of your day will be free. (B)
Day 6
While in Rome you will have the use of a two-day “hop on hop off tourist pass”. This pass will give you the ability to go to any or all of the major attractions that have made Rome famous. Commentary is provided while on the bus. The flexibility of the hop on hop off pass will give you the time you need to focus on the attractions you wish to spend time at. (B)
Day 7
You will have a free day in Rome to explore the grandeur of the city with your hop-on hop-off pass. Your host will have suggestions for a walking experience in Rome and you may wish to join her for part of the day as she navigates through some of the great neighbourhoods of Rome.
Day 8
This morning you will take a guided tour of the Vatican. Admission is included. The Vatican is the world capital of Catholicism and is the world’s smallest state. The Papal Palaces, next to the great basilica of St. Peter’s, are home to the Sistine Chapel and the eclectic collection of the Vatican Museums, as well as being residence of the Pope. Expect to spend several hours in this magnificent city. Farewell dinner included tonight. (B,D)
Day 9
You will be transferred to the airport for your return flight to Canada. Your guide will advise you of departure times.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have such a document if required. Any other nationality other than Canadian persons must identify themselves to the booking agent for verification of documents required.
