Ontario- Shaw Festival

September 26-28, 2023

October 4-6, 2023

Travac Tours is pleased to announce that it will be offering another exceptional program this year at the Shaw Festival.

We will feature the ever-popular Broadway musical, Gypsy, with music by Jule Steyn and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim based on the book by Arthur Laurents. Loosely based on the memoirs of striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, the story focuses on her mother, Rose, whose name has become synonymous with “the ultimate show business mother”.  Gypsy has been referred to as the greatest American musical by numerous critics and writers.

Our second play, Blithe Spirit, is a comic play by Noël Coward, a theatre-lovers’ favourite ever since it was written.  Described by the author as “an improbable farce in three acts”, novelist Charles, hoping to gather material for his next book, asks Madame Arcati to conduct a séance in his house. It works too well: his first wife returns from the other side, with predictably disastrous results for his second marriage…

We are also offering the option of a third play: The Playboy of the Western World (September departure) and A Bernard Shaw play – The Apple Cart (October departure).

The Playboy of the Western World is a comedy in three acts by Irish playwright John Millington Synge, The Playboy of the Western World tells the story of Christy Mahon, an Irish peasant boy who earns much admiration when he confesses to the murder of his tyrannical father but loses his hero status when the man turns up alive…

The Apple Cart centres around a power struggle between the king and his prime minister that triggers a full-blown constitutional crisis. Fiendishly plotted, with much to say about the true nature of power, this brilliant satire was one of the biggest hits of Bernard Shaw’s career.

Travac’s Shaw Festival Holiday is affordably priced at only $749.00 per person based on double occupancy + plus taxes of $97.37. Total cost per person with HST is $846.37.

Your holiday includes round trip transportation by deluxe chartered coach, 2 nights’ accommodation, 2 breakfasts,  orchestra seating for both plays and the services of a Travac Tours director.

Should you decide to take advantage of the third play, tickets must be purchased at the time of your initial booking. Tickets to The Playboy of the Western World (September departure) and The Apple Cart (October departure) are $80.00 per person.
